Church Planting is the Anglican District of Virginia's primary mission, because we understand it to be the most effective way to evangelize - to make new disciples of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of His Church. In the New Testament, Paul and others formed new Worshipping Communities, and so the Kingdom of God spread to new places.
We encourage the formation of Anglican Churches in the mid-Atlantic region in a variety of ways. We are loo0king for leaders, both lay and ordained, who have a vision to see a church begin to grow in their community. We envision and equip both individual leaders and existing Churches to begin new Worshipping Communities in their present location or in new locations. These Communities might be a pioneering plant; a second service of worship or a new campus of an existing church; a house churrch; a mother-daughter plant; or any number of other models of doing church.
To accomplish our mission, we offer a variety of services. When criteria are met, we can provide occasional sacramental ministry to Core Groups. We arrange coaching relationships for leaders. We assess leaders for aptitude in Church Planting. We provide training for groups across the region. We do have limited funding we can provide to encourage growth. We do everything we can to encourage the formation of new work, and to help grow existing groups.
Archbishop Bob Duncan has called for the formation of 1000 new churches in the five years of his Primacy. For more information go to www.Anglican1000.org. Following his lead, the Anglican District of Virginia has a goal to start 150 new worshipping communities in that time frame. Come join us in this mission and glorify God in this dynamic way.
