Reaching the Unreached
During the ADV-sponsored Missions Conference in February 2008, Rev. Jim Hobby shared some startling statistics.
-- The number of people groups that have been reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ is 14,000.
-- The number of people groups that have never heard the Gospel is11,000.
-- Ninety-four percent (94%) of missions resources (people and money) are devoted to work among those people groups who already have been reached.
-- Only Six Percent (6%) of missions resources are devoted to reaching those 1.5 billion who have never heard of Jesus.
How do we even begin to address this stunning discrepancy?
The ADV has begun by sending our Outreach Coordinator to observe the work of the Church of Nigeria with a largely unreached people in that area -- the Fulani tribal group. In followup to that trip, the ADV is looking for ways we can support the Church of Nigeria in this work, and for what we can learn from our Nigerian brothers about how we can be more effective in reaching those who have never heard the Gospel.
